We are very disappointed that Kettering Green Party are continuing to mislead local people on social media about decisions made at council meetings.
Elected representatives should ensure that residents are presented ALL the facts and context behind these decisions rather than inaccurate, selective reporting.
While Kettering Town Council recently agreed to replace the previous Climate Change Working Group, suggestions that this decision removes the climate or environment from the council’s agenda could not be further from the truth. The motion agreed will ensure that climate change implications are discussed on all council reports moving forward and will be at the heart of everything Kettering Town Council does.
The Climate Change Working Group was ineffective, had low attendance and was poorly organised with sudden meeting or venue changes resulting in members turning up to the wrong venue and being unable to participate. The Working Group proved to be difficult for the general public to attend whereas future meetings will be properly publicised and will allow for full public engagement with all residents who wish to participate.
Local residents deserve competence and we cannot have decisions being made without good organisation to support them.
The decision to change how the council discusses the climate will ensure that all elected councillors are now able to contribute, with proper terms of reference to aid decision making and discussions. With an improved framework to support decision-making Kettering Town Council can move towards effective climate actions actually being implemented.
The Climate Change Working Group was also proposing to spend public money and formalising how climate decisions are made will also ensure that proper scrutiny is given so local taxpayers can be a lot more confident their money is being spent effectively.
We can no longer stay silent while other parties post inaccurate information about the decisions of local Conservative councillors. Truth in politics matters and we will not hesitate to set the record straight and call out other parties when they mislead local residents.
